Outlook 2003: Your message did not reach some or all of the

I’m having an odd problem with outgoing email in Outlook 2003.

I just got a new laptop w/XP Pro and loaded the MS Office Standard Suite w/SP1. I also downloaded and installed Office SP3.

I set up Outlook email w/all my POP3 settings and tested the settings in Outlook — all fine.

Incoming email is no problem. However for some outgoing emails, I get an immediate (and I mean instantaneous) bounce-back message that looks like the following:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.
Subject: Test
Sent: 2/5/2010 12:13 PM
The following recipient(s) could not be reached:
sthelsey@optonline.net on 2/5/2010 12:13 PM
None of your e-mail accounts could send to this recipient.

The problem seems to be specific to certain email addresses. Some addresses I send to are fine; others get that instant bounce back. And there seems to be no domain patterns. For example, some gmail addresses work, others don’t.

To check to make sure it’s not my ISP or settings, I set up Outlook Express w/the same settings and all emails went out flawlessly — no bounce back issue.

What’s curious is how quickly the emails bounce back. It’s not like it’s traveling to the recipient, and being processed, and then returned. It’s like it’s being immediately rejected.

I’ve uninstalled and re-installed Outlook 2003 and SP3 to no avail. I also did a system restore to an earlier point to see if some software I loaded might be causing a conflict, but the problem persists. I also disbaled my anti-virus software…problem still persists. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

Spam Warning – Update for Microsoft Outlook / Outlook Express …

This is a clever spam email as it makes you think there is a security update for your email program, and who doesn’t want their email to be as secure as it can be.

For people in the know, it is common knowledge that the only way you should get updates for windows, Outlook or any Microsoft product is generally through Microsoft update in Microsoft Windows or their actual website. For everyone else they may just think this is Microsoft being kind and that they got the email address because it’s a Microsoft product and that they want to help you avoid being taken advantage of by scammers or hackers.

Of course that is exactly what some people think and go ahead and extract the zip file try to run the update and get themselves a trojan virus which gives the spammer/hacker control of your machine or something else like logging all your keystrokes for user names and passwords.

All I can say is obey the Microsoft update rule and only get it direct from them and always copy and paste the subject into google as you will most likely find a site at the top telling you it’s a spam email, oh and make sure your antivirus and malware checkers are up to date.

One more thing generally updates are version specific, so if you know your software has many versions this should give you a hint that there is something not quite right, so double check with the main company website if you want to be sure.

Computing Tech: How do I transfer my old Outlook Express inbox to …

HOW YOU MOVE your inbox depends on the version of Windows it’s moving to. I’ll focus on moving from XP to Vista; for details on how to go from one XP system to another or from XP to Windows 7, see find.pcworld.com/63937. First, you must copy your old PC messages. In Outlook Express, select Tools¨Options. Click the Maintenance tab, and then the Store Folder button. The resulting Store Location dialog box has a fi eld containing a folder path (probably starting with ‘C:Documents and Settings…’). Select this entire path by clicking inside it, pressing , and then pressing -. With the entire path highlighted, press -C to copy it. Click Cancel twice to leave both dialog boxes. Be sure to close Outlook Express. Then select Start¨Run, press -V to paste that path into the Run box, and press .

A Windows Explorer window will open, showing the contents of your store folder—the one holding your mail. Click the Up Folder icon to move to that folder. Copy the folder (probably called ‘Outlook Express’) to an external drive, a shared folder, or other media. In Vista, launch Windows Mail, and select File¨Import¨Messages. Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 as the program in the resulting Windows Mail Import wizard. Click the Browse button, find and select the Outlook Express folder that you copied from your old PC, and click Select Folder. Complete the wizard’s remaining steps. To move the contents of your old inbox into your new one, click the Inbox folder inside the Imported Folder folder, press -A to select all the messages, and drag them to the real Inbox folder.
